Big Hero 6 Wins Big at Adoption at the Movies Awards
Big Hero 6 was awarded both the “Best Movie” and “Best Animated Movie” Awards in the 2015 Adoption at the Movies Awards. The awards, voted on by the readers of Adoption at the Movies, seek to honor films that portray adoption-related themes in positive, uplifting, and entertaining ways. Big Hero 6 Director Don Hall was pleased by the honor, and expressed “On behalf of the amazing cast and crew of BH6, I would like to express our immense gratitude for this honor. This film was a true labor of love for everyone involved, and, as a filmmaker, my heart swells with pride anytime our collected efforts are recognized. As the father of an adopted child, it is especially meaningful to me to be honored in this way. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.”
Other honorees this year were The Boxtrolls, which won the
awards for “Best Adoptive Parent or Adoptive Parent Figure” and “Best Adoptive
Family,” ReMoved, which was honored with the award for “Best Short Film,” and
Ida, which won the award for “Best Foreign Film.”
The 2015 Adoption at the Movies Awards are the second annual
awards presented by Adoption at the Movies, an online film review website
serving the adoption community. The site was founded in 2012 by Addison Cooper,
a licensed clinical social worker with a focus on adoption, and now features a
database with nearly 200 films reviewed through an adoption perspective. Cooper
explained, “Adoptive families are often surprised to see adoption themes
reflected in mainstream movies, and sometimes their kids are hit especially
hard by themes of loss or abandonment. Adoption at the Movies helps families
discern ahead of time how a particular film might impact their kids, and the
Adoption at the Movies Awards help celebrate the films that have done the best
job at being safe – and even helpful – for adoptive families.
